Maker's Mark was founded by Bill and Margie Samuels in 1953. There is a saying that you buy your first bottle of Maker's Mark because of Margie and every bottle after that because of Bill. Margie came up with the name, the wax, bottle shape, and it is her hand writing on the label. Since the inception of our company, art and the feelings it can create, has been at the heart of what we do at Maker's Mark.
On March, 8th 2020 we hosted an event to celebrate International Women's Day and the local "Makers" of San Diego. While most of the artist that interact with Maker's Mark on a daily basis are behind a bar I thought it was also important to feature the same kind of art started our brand, the kind that begins by putting a brush to canvas.
We asked Cody Esp to paint a portrait of Margie Samuels during the event. What she created was not only artistically stunning but also brought to life the entire soul of what really makes Maker's Mark special, the way it can make you feel and it's ability to bring people together. I have never been more proud in my career to share the gift of Cody's piece with our current president of Maker's Mark and Margie's grandson, Rob Samuels.
